Joe Mertz Center hosts service emphasis week

HUNTINGTON, Ind. One selfless act of service can make an impact in the world no matter how big or small. The Joe Mertz Center strives to inspire all students to make a difference in their communities through Christian service. Given the organization's mission, the JMC is hosting a week-long service emphasis week beginning Feb. 6 through Feb. 10.

During the week, invited guest speakers will share their own encouragements during chapel services, and events will also be offered for people to give back to the community.

Guest speaker Joey Spiegel, of Love In the Name of Christ, will begin the week at 10 a.m. Feb. 7 for the first chapel service.

On Feb. 8, the JMC invites students, HU faculty and staff, and the public to attend a blood drive through the American Red Cross. There will be sign-ups in the Habecker Dining Commons on campus from Feb. 1 to 3. Walk-ins will be accepted at the blood drive, but registration is preferred.

Guest speaker Sherry Searles, founder of Accessories for Hope, will continue the service emphasis week at 9:30 p.m. Feb. 8 for the second chapel service.
Guest speaker Josh Kessler, founding pastor of The Well in Huntington, Ind., will conclude service emphasis week at 10 a.m. Feb. 9 for the final chapel service.

All chapel services will be held in Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

The Joe Mertz Center will also host a fundraiser spaghetti dinner at Café of Hope from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 9. The JMC asks for $4 donations from those planning to attend. The donation money will go toward funding a new van to transport students for mission trips and other service opportunities. Café of Hope is located at 900 East State St. Huntington, Ind. 46750.

All events are open to the public.
