Opportunity Meets Initiative: Dalton Henry’s Approach to Interning at Alliance Bank
Alliance Bank in Francesville, Indiana, was fortunate to have Dalton Henry serve as a deposit operations intern over the summer. Dalton is a junior studying economics and finance and a student-athlete on the soccer team.
One of his favorite parts of the internship was the opportunity to network with employees across departments, giving him a well-rounded understanding of the bank’s operations. Alliance Bank serves as the main branch of this small community institution, providing Henry with valuable exposure to multiple aspects of the banking process.
Within his department, Henry handled mobile deposits, located files for audits, and learned to navigate the bank’s operating system. Since this was his first experience in the banking industry, adapting to new software was initially challenging, but mastering it strengthened his adaptability.
Henry’s advice for anyone beginning or considering an internship is to take full advantage of every opportunity. For him, that included attending the Indiana Bankers Association’s Future Leadership Division Conference.
“Whenever you have an opportunity to do something, you should probably just do it,” Henry said. “There was a Young Banking Professionals event that I was able to attend, so I capitalized on that. I got to hear some great speakers and meet other interns.”
He also encouraged others to approach their experiences with openness and a willingness to grow.
“Just be very open-minded and have a growth mindset,” Henry shared. “I feel like that’s what employers are really looking for — because if you’re open-minded and willing to learn, they know you can do anything for them.”
