Friesen Center ‘sails’ into service this October

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Huntington University's Friesen Center for Volunteer Service will hold its annual Fall Work Day from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 19. The theme for this year is "Sail Away," a nautical emphasis for a morning of community outreach. More than 200 student volunteers are anticipated to participate at more than 20 locations.

Some of the locations this year include the YMCA, Miller's Merry Manor, the community gardens, Forks of the Wabash Historic Park, Boys and Girls Club, Love Inc. and homes of Huntington residents. The university also will be partnership with the United Way of Huntington County to bring more awareness to the organizations supported.

This is the Friesen Center's first Fall Work Day under its new name. Formerly the Joe Mertz Center for Volunteer Services, the Friesen Center is a student-directed organization that coordinates Huntington University students in volunteer efforts on a daily basis. The Friesen Center stands to build the idea that every one person can make a difference in the community.
