Friesen Center to host February blood drive

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Huntington University's Friesen Center for Volunteer Service will host a blood drive from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 5 in the upper level of the Habecker Dining Commons on campus. This will be the third of four scheduled blood drives for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Because of the severe weather across the country, the Red Cross has had to cancel more than 240 blood drives. This has caused a shortfall of nearly 8,400 blood and platelet donations.

The Friesen Center hosts all blood drives each year in conjunction with the American Red Cross.

To encourage new donors from Huntington University, there will be a raffle just for new participants as well as incentives for returning donors.

Individuals who are interested in donating blood may register online at www.givelife.org or in person in the dining commons at Huntington University. Walk-ins are also acceptable, but everyone participating must have a photo ID. The blood drive is open to the public.

The Friesen Center is also asking volunteers to help on the day of the drive.
