HU students return to the Home of Love for January Term
HUNTINGTON, Ind. Huntington University students are returning to India for the third year in a row to serve at the Home of Love orphanage in Chennai.
The trip, led by Dr. David Alexander and his wife, Gen, has been one of the most successful service trips in HU history, and the demand to attend the trip has students returning again for Jterm.
Home of Love, an orphanage for Indian girls at risk of living on the streets or getting involved in prostitution, is forever bonded with HU. Students have raised thousands of dollars for the orphanage in past years in addition to leading Bible studies and performing on-site construction.
The students attending this year are:
- Jeff Babbs, a junior recreation and sports ministry major from Westfield, Ill.
- Brittany Fitzgerald, a junior elementary and special education major from Owatonna, Minn.
- Blake Hughes, a junior computer science and animation major from Rossford, Ohio
- Rachel Larson, a junior film production major from Lakeville, Minn.
- Chris Morrical, a senior math education major from Goshen, Ind.
- Nicco Ravenna, a sophomore worship leadership and economics and finance major from Gibsonia, Pa.
- Cate Rinchak, a senior graphic design major from Chesterton, Ind.
- Kaitlyn Troyer, a junior elementary and special education major from Goshen, Ind.
- John Wagel, a junior philosophy major from Huntington, Ind.
- Kaleigh Woodcox, a senior nursing major from Bremen, Ind.
- Zach Ziino, a junior youth ministries major from Godfrey, Ill.
Students on campus for Jterm will be partaking in a batch of fresh classes for the three week session. Popular classes this year are "Scary Movies" with Dr. Tamara O'Hearn, "Jane Austen" with Dr. Jack Heller, and the return of the Harry Potter-themed "Hogwarts and Huntington" class with Dr. Dwight Brautigam.
