Department of Nursing receives mattresses, tables

Huntington, Ind.-Bluffton Regional Medical Center in Bluffton, Ind., has donated six mattresses and six over-the-bed tables to Huntington University's Department of Nursing. "These resources will enhance the bed frames we received in May from Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne and will be used to provide students with a realistic hospital environment," said Margaret Winter, director of the nursing program. "Providing the nursing students with a practical setting in the Nursing Learning Lab will increase confidence in the clinical area. We are grateful to Bluffton Regional Medical Center, particularly Brenda Tomson, chief nursing officer, and Tom Clark, CEO, for their assistance in obtaining these resources."

The Department of Nursing recently purchased a life-size, vinyl plastic manikin named "Suzie" that features moveable joints. The manikin will provide opportunities for training in a variety of clinical skills and procedures from injections to bathing.
"Suzie will be used to assist our beginning nursing students with their skills before caring for patients in the clinical setting," Winter said.
In addition, the department purchased four oxygen and vacuum heads for the headwalls from Ohio Medical Corporation.
