Frequently Asked Questions

The section below describes Huntington University's relationship with Purdue for this incredible program. It also answers many questions students may have.
How does a dual-degree program work?

Students enrolling in this special dual-degree program will be enrolled as a full time student at Huntington University. This program is set up to be completed in four years; however, students will be enrolled year-round.

During the summer term, students will primarily be enrolled in mentorships working on completing specific skills necessary for veterinary nursing. Mentorships will/can be completed at area veterinary clinics or practices, and some will also be completed on the Huntington University campus utilizing the Don Strauss Animal Science Education Center and the Three Rivers Farm

Why did HU partner with Purdue?

Purdue University’s veterinary technology program has been American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited since 1976 and is one of four AVMA accredited veterinary nursing programs in the country affiliated with a College of Veterinary Medicine.

Indiana and most states require credentialing for Veterinary Technicians. Credentialing requires passing the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) and registering with the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. Purdue’s veterinary technology students have a 90-95% first-time pass rate on the VTNE.

How does Financial Aid work?

All Purdue fees are paid via your Huntington University tuition and Financial Aid. In light of this, you will only need to apply for Financial Aid through Huntington University.

How does Acceptance work?

Acceptance to one university does not guarantee acceptance to both.  Students must apply and be accepted by both Purdue and Huntington University. (See below for a walkthrough on how to apply to each university.)

I have been taking VTDL classes, can I enroll in the Dual Degree program at HU?

We are pleased to announce: Yes! Talk with your admissions counselor today about the dual degree program to learn more.

How do labs work with online courses?

All Purdue Veterinary Technology courses are online. There are no in-person, classroom instruction of the Veterinary Technology courses.

Students in the dual dgree program at Huntington University will have "lab time" twice a week the first fall semester. This is time to study and interact with classmates as well as receive guidance/tutoring and support from advisor.

Students will also have access to the Skills Lab with teaching models during normal building hours. (Note: Students will be responsible for their own transportation to and from mentorships.)
