Admission to the Education Department

Freshman Year: 

OR

  • Meet waiver requirements
    • SAT score of 1170 (Critical Reading & Math after 3/1/2016) or ACT score of 24

Sophomore Year:

  • Enroll in sophomore level education courses
  • Apply to the Teacher Education Program
  • Interview with Teacher Education Committee
    • Teacher Education Committee will look at : GPA (2.5 minimum), passing Praxis Core scores or waiver met, criminal background check, recommendations, and interview results
  • Teacher Education Committee will meet to decide applicant’s status: accept, defer, or deny

Junior Year:

  • Enroll in: junior block courses (Elementary Education) or secondary major/content and methods courses (Secondary Education)
  • Enroll in Multicultural J-Term course
  • Apply to student teach
  • Register for Praxis Pedagogy Tests: Principles of Teaching & Learning and/or Content Area
    • Registration for test MUST happen BEFORE placement for student teaching (or students will not be given a placement). Be sure to send your proof of registration to Kajsa Averill

Senior Year:

  • Enroll in ED440 Topics & Problems
  • Take one Praxis Licensing Test at minimum; students should report which test or tests taken to Kajsa Averill 
  • Student teaching
    • During student teaching students should create a profile within the Indiana State teaching license website in preparation to receive a teaching license
