Admissions Procedures

To apply to the ABSN program, students complete the following steps:

  1. Complete an application form through Indiana Tech (ABSN Application Forms).
  2. Submit an official transcript for each college or university previously attended.
  3. After transcript(s) has been received and evaluated by the registrar and Department of Nursing, work with an Admissions Counselor to finalize enrollment.

Admission Requirements to the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

Students who have been dismissed from other nursing programs for safety or disciplinary reasons will not be admitted to the Huntington University ABSN Program. In order to be admitted to the ABSN program, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Earned a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field
  • Received a grade of “C” or better in each of the following core or supporting courses: EN 121; CO 251; CH 141/141L; PY 111 and 230; SO 111; MA 151; BI 232/232L; BI 241/241L; BI 242/242L (or equivalent course).
    Note: All science and math courses may be repeated only once to obtain the required grade of “C” or above to be eligible for entry into the program. The following courses: CH 141/141L; MA 151; BI 232/232L; BI 241/241L; BI 242/242L may only be withdrawn (W) from twice, and may only be repeated once, to obtain the required grade of “C” or above to be eligible for entry into the program.
  • Grade point averages from all college-level courses completed and transferred to Huntington University will be factored into the cumulative GPA calculated for Nursing Clinical Admission. GPA for admission to the ABSN program is 2.75.
  • Satisfactory completion of all requirements for entry into the program
  • Complete Clinical Requirements
    • Background check
    • CPR certification
    • Immunizations including yearly influenza vaccine
    • Physical
    • Drug screen
    • TB skin test
    • Driving record
    • Professional Liability insurance

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Official transcripts of all previous work completed at another college or university must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar. Transcripts will be evaluated by the registrar and the Department of Nursing to determine eligibility. Evaluation of transfer credits will be determined on an individual basis. The Department of Nursing’s decision will be final.
  • All nursing courses (designated NUA) must be taken at Huntington University unless otherwise specified by the director of the nursing program.
  • Work completed more than ten years prior to a student’s date of graduation is subject to review by the registrar and the Department of Nursing to determine whether those credits will count toward graduation. All science courses transferred must have been completed within the last five years.

Readmission

Students who interrupt their enrollment for one or more semesters must apply for readmission. A request for readmission must also be made to the Department of Nursing. Students who fail out of the ABSN program may reapply to the University and to the Department of Nursing five years after the dismissal.
