Last year, a few students from the Department of Digital Media Arts (DMA) and I had this idea for a series of organized meetings where people could share art and concepts, receive feedback and suggestions, etc. Unfortunately, that idea sort of drifted to the back of the filing cabinet.

As you finish your finals, turn in research papers, and submit internship hours, you want to experience a little holiday cheer on campus before you go home to celebrate with those closest to you. Check out the events that the Merillat Centre for the Arts (MCA) has planned for December.

Making its home within HG Market on Vine, a home design and improvement business with a boutique offering home décor, clothing, and locally made products, Coffee d’Vine is perfect for the coffee (and non-coffee) drinkers who like to shop and browse while sipping on their drinks.

I almost chose not to go. I had three unfinished projects and was nervous about cutting too close to the deadlines.

Nestled within the building of Life Church, Cafe of Hope is a popular spot for HU students. Created by Life Church to connect with the Huntington community and help people take their next steps towards Jesus, this coffee shop has an incredibly welcoming and loving environment.

If you asked me four years ago if I thought going to a Christian university would push me to become stronger in my faith, I would have told you the choice was too safe. I had so many doubts, but this one was the loudest: If I was surrounded by like-minded people and consistent messages of faith, would I be prepared to live in the “real world” when I graduated?

The first stop in our coffee cup series is connected to the local JJ’s gas station and is one of HU students’ most loved coffee shops: JJ Java. Affectionately known as JJ’s, this coffee shop serves a variety of drinks, such as coffee, tea, smoothies, and juice.

In November, our side of the globe may be turning colder in preparation for winter, but the creative minds from the Merillat Centre of the Arts are only getting warmed up. The MCA welcomes you to wrap up this autumn enjoying a variety of musical, theatre, and visual arts.

Saturday mornings for college students typically involve sleeping in, watching Netflix, or going out to brunch with friends. I attended a volleyball match this past Saturday, and I can confidently say I will be returning for more. Huntington University’s volleyball program is high energy, and they invite their fans to join them in the fun.

With the busyness of classes, internships, practices, and social lives, the individual importance of each spiritual life experience is sometimes lost. We tend to turn these meaningful times of worship into a 45-minute period of waiting for a QR code. Drawing from my personal experience at a chapel service, I hope that you can see the invaluable impact that spiritual life events can have in your life if you are attentive and have an open heart.
